Louisiana is instituting sweeping prison and sentencing reforms in an effort to reduce prison population and save the state hundreds of millions of dollars. These reforms aim to reduce the negative impact of incarceration when prisoners reenter society as well, reducing the rate of recidivism and increasing the economic prospects of former prisoners.
