Survey Reveals Nearly One-Third of Americans Have Lost Someone to Drug Poisoning
June 7, 2024
A recent survey by Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health reveals that about one in
three Americans knows someone who has died of a drug poisoning. Among the 2,300 adults
surveyed, 32 percent reported such a loss, with nearly 19 percent identifying the deceased as a
family member or close friend. The survey also shows that experiencing a loss due to drug
poisoning increases the likelihood of supporting related policies. These findings suggest that
engaging this substantial portion of the U.S. population could be an effective strategy for driving
policy change.
