The Philadelphia Department of Prisons launched a pilot medication-assisted treatment program in 2018. However, since that launch, it has found itself with more willing participants than doctors with adequately high prescribing limits. The federally-regulated prescribing limits on buprenorphine have lessened the prison system’s ability to admit all interested inmates into the treatment program.
